This presentation will explore the benefits of mediation and other ADR techniques for resolving business disputes, including employee relations disputes.  We will also discuss the use of mediation and arbitration agreements in employment contracts, with an eye on the Epic Systems case, which was argued this term and is currently awaiting decision in the Supreme Court of the U.S.

Learning Objectives:
-To understand the benefits of mediation in resolving employment disputes
-To explore the use of mediation and arbitration agreements in employment contracts
-To understand the issues in the Epic Systems case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court


Steve started his career as a teacher. He was a member of the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers and the American Montessori Society. After graduation from night  law school in 1993, he clerked for the Honorable S. Arthur Spiegel, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio. Since 1995 he has practiced mediation and labor & employment law at Thompson Hine. He is the leader of the firm's Labor & Employment practice group. He counsels employers regarding all aspects of labor and employment practices.
